Reading by Irish Poets
Stephen Sexton and Jessica Traynor at SWANE Café
As part of their Zeitgeist Irland 24 Reading Tour, two award-winning Irish poets will visit Wuppertal and read from their latest collections at the SWANE Café. These younger Irish writers have achieved success and recognition both inside and outside of Ireland with poetry that both speaks to and challenges the Irish canon.
Jessica Traynor won the 2023 Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award and was the 2023 Arts Council Writer in Residence at Galway University. She is the recipient the Listowel Poetry Prize and was named Hennessy New Writer of the Year in 2013. Pit Lullabies (2022) is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and was named as one of “The best new poetry of 2022” in the Irish Times.
Stephen Sexton's poetry collection If All the World and Love Were Young (2019) was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and the E. M. Forster Award, and in 2018 he won the Eric Gregory Award, presented by the Society of Authors. Cheryl’s Destiny (2021) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection and was a Financial Times, Irish Times and Telegraph Book of the Year.
Join Stephen Sexton and Jessica Traynor on June 11, 18,30 at SWANE-Café (Luisenstraße 102a) for an evening of poetry on desire, identity, parenthood, divination, memory, love and loss.
